This beautiful tray frame is handmade by me. It starts with a thick piece of willow which has grown for 3-4 years. I split that using a froe in a traditional manner and then shave a quarter of the rod down using a draw knife on a shave horse. I bend the shaved willow around a round former and allow the frame to dry for 3 weeks. When dry I join and peg the hoop to secure it, peg a shaved middle rib into it, lash it together with willow on opposite sides, insert whole rod ribs and weave around them. A complicated process for a beautiful, simple tray, but well worth the time and effort to produce such a beautiful, timeless piece!
