This beautiful oval tray is handmade by me using traditional methods. It starts with splitting a thick willow rod that has grown for 4-5 years. Then I shave a quarter of the rod using a draw knife on the shave horse. When the rod is lovely and smooth I taper the ends to allow it to join evenly when bent around a former. It dries over 3 weeks before it is ready for weaving. I peg the join and the middle shaved rib to secure them. Finally I insert whole rods and weave around them. It’s a time-consuming process but results in a beautiful unique willow tray!
