Medium Hen Basket, woven by me in Dickie Meadows organically home grown willow.

This basket style is thought to have originated in Scotland and is also known as an Ose or Skye Basket. It was originally used to carry a broody hen to a neighbour who needed a hen to incubate their eggs. The design of the basket meant that a hen could fit snugly inside without being able to flap her wings. Larger versions were also used in medieval construction. French icon Brigitte Bardot brought this basket into fashion in the 1960s when she carried one as a purse!
